Announcing ExpoSong 0.8

A new version of ExpoSong is available, with a lot of great new features and fixes. Here are some of the things that have been added to this release:

  • Background Images have been replaced by a full theme system, with a built-in theme editor. This allows for a mix of images, gradients, and solid colors. Fonts, colors, and effects are also available.
  • Lyrics improvements:
    • A preferred songbook can be set in preferences, which will be shown on the screen if available.
    • The order is used in the slide list, but can be disabled.
    • The lyrics title slide can be turned on or off in the preferences.
  • A new ExpoSong Presentation type adds the ability to have slides with any arrangement of images and text. This replaces both the Text and Image presentation types.
  • Search improvements.
  • Control ExpoSong from the command line in Linux.

ExpoSong 0.8 Delays

We apologize for the delay in getting version 0.8 released. We have both been very busy this summer, but if we can both get a good weekend’s worth of work, we could probably get this thing completed. No definite promises, but check back at the end of September.

Thank you for your support and patience. We are still looking for help.

ExpoSong 0.8 Preview

We’ve been trying hard to improve the user interface, and I just thought I would give you a little something to wet your appetite. I am really excited about the theming engine, and we plan to have a functional theme editor in place to assist the average user.

We’ve got a lot of work to put in, so let us know if you would like to help.

I hope you all have a great Christmas Holiday, and let us know what you think!

ExpoSong 0.7.1 has been released. This is a bugfix release, with a few minor features that were added. We’ve improved performance, added a  splash screen, and a freeze function.

From this point forward, we plan on making new releases on a 6 to 8 month cycle, with bugfix-only releases when they are needed.

Changes in 0.7.1

  • Many performance improvements. Caching for images speed up loading the program by up to 5 times faster than before.

  • Translations are now working on Windows.

Announcing 0.7-beta1

We’ve just released Exposong-0.7-beta1! It’s got a lot of changes and improvements. Links to download it are below.

If at all possible, we hope to have the final release out before September. We plan to have packages for Windows, Ubuntu (Debian), and possibly Fedora (Red Hat). This should make it a lot easier for people to use ExpoSong in the future.

I’m glad to have Samuel Mehrbrodt as a new contributor to the project, who has brought a lot of good ideas and improvements to ExpoSong. It also has encouraged me to get going on the new release.

New Features

  • Using OpenLyrics to store Lyrics. This brings a lot of additional features. We will be integrating more in the future.
  • User can change the output monitor in dual screen mode.
  • Display songbook number on presentation (more improvements to this in the next release).
  • Save and restore the main window’s state.
  • Undo/Redo in most edit dialogs.
  • Improved shortcuts.

Download

Exposong-0.7-beta1 – Unpackage, and follow the installation instructions.
Background-Pack1 – Select File->Import->Schedule or Library on the menu, and select the .expo file you downloaded.

Contributing

I hope to not have many problems with this release, but it is labeled a beta because it is pre-release. If you see a problem, or just have an idea for a feature, use our Issue Tracker. Glance over the issue list, and submit a new one if you do not see that it already exists. If you have the time and ability, you can always submit patches as well. Check out the project.
